FED Fed officials have been hinting at an even slower pace of rate hikes for 2023. Markets are anticipating a pace of rate hikes at 25 basis points, rather than the frontloaded hikes of 75 and 50 basis points that we saw in 2022.
INTERNATIONAL MARKETS While the economy slows down, data out of Europe and China has been better than anticipated. International markets have had a strong start to the year.
INFLATION Consumer prices fell 0.1% in December, as a drop in gasoline prices helped the overall number. The trend from mid-2022 continues to reflect slowing inflation.

HOUSING Existing home sales fell for the 11th consecutive month in December, as the housing market cooled off in most markets in 2022 due to higher interest rates.
JOBS The job market remains strong as the December nonfarm payrolls topped expectations. A stronger job market makes it tougher for the Federal Reserve to pause rate hikes.
